The Unexpected: curated by Daniel Malarkey at The Twenty Two, London

3 - 20 October 2024

I am delighted to have curated a selection of works for The Twenty Two, London, drawn from private collections.

There is something disarming about encountering the unexpected - the sense of possibility and discovery so characteristic of the world’s grandest hotels, only a few of which are left today, is all too rare. The Twenty Two is one of those hotels that possesses this quality and inspired me to create an immersive artistic experience.

Central to this presentation is the idea of Gesamtkunstwerk, the synthesis of all arts. This is an environment in which chance meetings - with people, art and objects - occur, and the images on the wall imprint themselves in our minds in ways that can only be described as THE UNEXPECTED.

Artists included

Jean-Marie Appriou, Felipe Baeza, Ernie Barnes, Silas Borsos, Pablo Bronstein, Anna Calleja, Tancredi di Carcaci, Francesco Clemente, Patrizio di Massimo, Armand Doré, Chiara Enzo, Rui Miguel Leitao Ferreira, Maggi Hambling, Gwen John, Cary Kwok, Aubrey Levinthal, Amadeo Luciano Lorenzato, Quentin James McCaffrey, Juanita McNeely, Marta Naturale, Gladys Nilsson, Paul P., Daisy Parris, Celia Paul, Howardena Pindell, David Rappeneau, Dorothea Tanning, Mariana Varela, and Flora Yukhnovich.
